Description
Alison Stilwell Cameron (1921-1991). Chinese 4-panel silk screen painting depicting a bird perched on roses, ca. 1964.
“Alison Stilwell Cameron was born in China to General “Vinegar” Joe Stilwell and grew up speaking Mandarin Chinese. She studied painting in Shanghai. Alison was immersed in Chinese culture and through her family was acquainted with leaders of China like Chiang Kai-Shek. She married Colonel Cameron (USAF) and moved from SAC base to base. While at Lockburn AFB in Columbus, OH I became friends with her middle daughter, Laurie Cameron. As a farewell gift, she gave this painting to my parents when they were transferred from Lockbourne. Alison taught Chinese painting techniques and authored a textbook.”
