Cephas Thompson (1775-1856). Oil on canvas portrait of Charles Frederick Thompson, the artist’s son, as noted by the nameplate on the frame. There is a swath of canvas inscribed with the artist’s name, possibly his signature, attached to the verso.
Provenance: Directly from artist; descended through family.
Artist: Cephas Thompson, American, 1775-1856.
Dimensions: Unframed; height: 24 in x width: 19 1/3 in. Framed; height: 31 3/4 in x 27 in.
Condition: Good condition, canvas has been re-lined. One small area of loss, less than 1/2 inch, to the upper right corner of the figure’s head.
