Description
Utagawa Kunisada/Toyokuni III (1786-1865). Group of six 19th century Japanese woodblock prints depicting kabuki actors. In one print, published by Jo-shu-ya, actors Bandou Minsuke and Kataoka Yoshimatsu play a young sumo wrestler and coach. Another print, which features Hyogo-ya Ujizato as a courtesan by a window with a roll of paper in right hand, was published by Tsujioka-ya Bunsuke and printed in 1859. The next print shows the actor Kawanzoshi Gonjuro with kumadori (stage makeup), and was published by Eli-yo Rinnoshka in 1862. The next prints feature a woman in a red interior scene, a woman in floral textiles, and a standing figure holding on to a boat.
