Jean Dubuffet Arborescences I Vacuform Relief and Screenprint

Jean Dubuffet (French, 1901-1985). Screenprinted vacuum-formed relief titled “Arborescences I,” 1972, depicting overlapping curving black and white forms.

Initialed and dated in white crayon along the lower right; numbered 58/75 along the lower left. Jean Dubuffet’s “Arborescences” reliefs were created as part of his “Hourloupe” cycle in the early 1970s. These reliefs show the blending of the distinct line forms of the “Hourloupe” cycle with the fixation on texture and form that lasted throughout his career.
