Mark Klett (b. 1952). Silver gelatin print photograph titled “Grave of Hi-Jolly: Desert Camel Driver,” depicting the gravesite of Hadji Ali, nicknamed Hi Jolly, in Quartzsite, Arizona, USA. Hi Jolly was the Syrian caretaker brought over to the United States during Jefferson Davis’ Camel Experiment in 1856. When he passed away, locals gathered to create a pyramid tomb topped with a metal camel silhouette, which you can see through the trees in Klett’s photograph.
