Warren MacKenzie (American, 1924-2018). Massive studio ceramic pottery platter. Stoneware with spotted and slashed decorations. There are two areas along the rim of the platter where the outline of MacKenzie’s fingers can be seen. Warren MacKenzie was a renowned Minnesota studio potter. A student of Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada, he is credited with bringing the functional Mingei tradition to the United States, and spreading it through his own art and mentorship of students during his long tenure at the University of Minnesota.
