Raymond Parker (American, 1922-1990). Acrylic on canvas abstract expressionist color field painting depicting shapes of pink and yellow on a field of lilac, 1980. Signed and dated in pencil along the verso; possibly titled “106” in pencil. Provenance: Distinguished Corporate Collection, Minnesota. Born in South Dakota, Parker earned his MFA from the University of Iowa in 1948. From there he would go on to teach at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. It was here that his paintings evolved from cubism to Abstract Expressionism, Color Field painting, and Lyrical Abstraction. He was also a leading figure in the Post-Painterly Abstraction movement.
