Whiting Sterling Punch Bowl w/ Grapes & Snake 1884

Whiting Manufacturing Co., United States. Sterling silver punch bowl decorated throughout with ornate vines with bunches of full grapes delicately dangling from the vines, 1884. A snake winds from the three feet and seemingly disappears into the bowl only to reappear winding through the vines along the upper rim. The hammered interior with a gold wash harkens to the scales of the serpent along the exterior. With a Whiting silver mark, “STERLING,” and 1422A stamped along the underside. Additionally marked “Shreve Crump & Low, Boston, U.S.A.,” along the underside. With a monogrammed “M” along the side. Height: 6 5/8 in x diameter: 12 1/2 in. Gross weight of sterling: 91.6 Troy oz.
