William Louis Sonntag (American, 1822-1900). Monumental Hudson River School oil on canvas painting titled “Afterglow, Massanutten Mountains,” 1865, depicting a hazy river landscape in the rosy glow of sunset. Signed and dated along the lower left. Inkstamped along the verso with “Theodore Kelley Artist’s Colorman,” a supplier of artist’s supplies. An early label from Chapellier Galleries is affixed along the stretcher.
